2.2.4 Introducing SWIFT: The Smith/Westbrook Intellectual Frustration Therapy, Designed Specifically for Gifted Individuals

SWIFT – introducing a tailor-made therapy for gifted individuals designed specifically for helping them celebrate their intensity, inventiveness and intellect, while identifying and coping with the impact of chronic boredom, intellectual frustration, perfectionism and procrastination.

Fiona Smith is the Director of Gifted Minds Pty Ltd based in Sydney, Australia. She is a registered Psychologist and has a Masters Degree of Education, majoring ingifted education. Over the last twenty years Fiona has assessed over 3500 gifted children, adolescents and adults. Fiona travels all over Australia and has done assessments in China and Hong Kong. She has spoken at State, National and International conferences since 1998. Fiona counsels gifted clients and has done research in creativity and mental health and well-being issues seen in creative young adults in Australia. Fiona also counsels parents with gifted children.

Dominic Westbrook is the Counsellor at Gifted Minds. He has a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Counselling. His role is to work with gifted children, adolescents and young adults in resilience-based training to help with any negative aspects of intensity and high ability. Growing up as a gifted student himself he has a clear understanding of the frustration and boredom that can be a factor in some academic institutions. Dominic works with his clients to create balance between the intellectual, emotional and social spheres, using person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques.
