2.7.8 Adolescent Latina Identity in Dual Language Gifted and Talented Classrooms

This project considers how Latina learners and giftedness are constructed within the United States through cultural norms in middle grades gifted and talented classrooms. This inquiry exposes how these learners disrupt ready-made constructions of giftedness.

Jenna Nelson, Ed.D., is an Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Concordia University Chicago. Prior to joining Concordia University Chicago, she was an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago and a teaching fellow at Boston University. Her research interests include gifted and talented education, secondary English education, literacy, English Language Learners, culturally responsive teaching, and student identity.
