13 One School's Journey to Implementing Identity Workspaces and Culturally Responsive Education

Examine the evolution of our school's equity and inclusion affinity work, specifically how we’ve implemented cultural affinity groups for gifted students in elementary, middle, and high school. Hear about the administrative infrastructure needed to support this initiative, the developmental scaffolding in grades K-12 within affinity groups, and the role of the school community. Participants will receive strategies for putting affinity groups in place, general best practices, and resources to support culturally responsive education. This initiative is a work in progress, evolving yearly. The poster will examine the school structure of culturally responsive education (affinity groups, kid watching, and parent involvement), the classroom structure (multicultural education, social justice education, and culturally responsive teaching), and the social-emotional structure (culturally responsive counseling, responsive discipline, and restorative justice practices).
