2.8.9 2e Literature: An International Content Analysis

How much has the term “twice-exceptional” made it into professional literature and research around the world? Who is publishing work about twice-exceptional? What is the focus of literature on 2e? This study provides the results of a content analysis that examined the literature over the last twenty years that used the terms “2e” or “twice-exceptional” in its descriptions in an online search, providing a total of 563 articles analyzed for peer-reviewed status, content, and journal source. Results and implications will be shared.

Claire E. Hughes, Ph.D. is an associate professor and Director of Education and Teacher Preparation at the College of Coastal Georgia. Previously, she was Faculty Director of the Special Needs and Inclusion program at Canterbury Christ Church University in England, and a Fulbright Scholar to Greece. She is active in the National Association for Gifted Children, The Association for the Gifted (CEC-TAG) and Teacher Education Divisions (CEC-TED) of the Council for Exceptional Children. She is author of numerous books and chapters, and her research areas include: twice-exceptional children, positivistic views of exceptionality; and international special education.

Debra A. Troxclair, Ph.D., Associate Professor at Lamar University and Interim-Department Chair of the Teacher Education Department where she teaches special education and gifted education courses. She has 20+ years of experience teaching at the K-12 level/university level and has supervised summer programs for gifted children. She is on the Advisory Committee for Teaching for High Potential and the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Education of the Gifted. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) TAG Division.
