Gifted Education in the Mixed-Ability Classroom

This presentation will be about the value of providing teachers with diverse data about their students as a means of enabling them to differentiate both for students with disabilities and gifted students within heterogeneously-grouped classrooms. Redlands is a Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 school in metropolitan Sydney, Australia, that introduced a “Diversity Dashboard” in 2024 to promote data-informed, inclusive differentiation. This presentation will reveal the types of data provided on the dashboard and the ways in which teachers have used this data both to support students with special needs and to extend gifted students. It will also consider how Subject Coordinators and Middle Leaders in the school work together to improve assessment practices to ensure all students achieve their potential.
