Comparative Analysis of Gifted Education Programs by Talent Domains in South Korea

This study examines the characteristics of gifted education programs in South Korea based on criteria such as screening and selection processes, operational systems, and curricula. Specifically, it analyzes talent domains including arts, linguistics, and programs for socially disadvantaged groups. The findings reveal consistent program duration and participant age across domains, with arts and linguistic programs uniquely accommodating high school students. Performance measures significantly differ for arts and linguistic programs compared to STEM programs. Additionally, programs for socially disadvantaged students prioritize potential over demonstrated ability. The implications for refining gifted education policies and practices in South Korea and beyond will be discussed.
