Serving Gifted Students in Brazil: Taking Theory into Practice

This presentation examines the “Specialized Educational Service for Gifted Students,” continuously implemented since 1976 in the Federal District, Brazil. In 2024, the program served 2,050 students, primarily from socioeconomically disadvantaged families, providing weekly support to develop talents through the Enrichment Triad Model. Students undergo evaluation and enrichment activities guided by specialized professionals. Itinerant teachers bridge special and regular education, offering training and family support, while psychologists contribute to evaluations using various tools and provide emotional support. Despite its impact on talent development and self-awareness, challenges include myths about giftedness, limited resources, and a shortage of professionals.
