Panel: Developmental and Cultural Transactions of Giftedness

The panelists will present their conceptualization and data illustrations related to the issues of identification and education of gifted and talented individuals at different developmental stages and in different cultures. Sampling four developmental periods, pre-K, elementary/middle school, high school, and institutions of higher education), the panelists will share their developmental and culture specific data as well as their thoughts on developmental and cultural similarities and differences across the educational systems they represent. The panel will focus on the following questions: Is the definition of giftedness and talent culture-universal or culture-specific? Is giftedness stable across development from childhood into young adulthood?
