Making a Difference in the Lives of Gifted and Talented Youth through an Afterschool Program: A Model from the US

Students from economically backward communities are significantly underrepresented in gifted and talented programs in many communities around the globe. This session will highlight an afterschool program developed in the east coast in the US mainly to reach Black and Latino gifted students in grades 3-8. This program adopts innovative practices with curriculum differentiation to support high-ability/high-potential learners in New York City. The program adopts an out-of-nature approach to learning backed by research and best practices. The goal of this afterschool program is to identify and support diverse youth academically, socially, physically, emotionally and revolutionize their learning experiences.
