Integrating Visual Art in CCE to Enhance Gifted Learners’ Social-Emotional Competencies in a Complex World

Recognising gifted learners’ heightened cognitive abilities and emotional sensitivities, this study examines how integrating visual art into Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) instruction can enhance self- and social-awareness among Grade 7 to Grade 10 gifted learners. Four CCE lessons were redesigned and enacted across grade levels with art integration in 2023. Findings revealed visual art played a critical role in fostering an engaging and non-threatening environment that was conducive to self-discovery and empathetic understanding of diverse views and values. This interdisciplinary approach provided gifted learners with personalised opportunities to explore complex societal issues and moral dilemmas in a changing world.
