Factors Drive Parents to Provide Support to Gifted Students in Summer Enrichment Programs
This paper explores the influence of enabling factors of summer enrichment programs (SEPs) on students' learning, as perceived by parents, within the context of gifted education in Saudi Arabia. Utilizing a correlational-exploratory design, the researchers assessed how various enablement components affect the perceived impact of SEPs on gifted students. A sample of 1571 parents of gifted students participated in the survey. The results showed 11 enablement items accounted for approximately 62% of the variance in the impact factor score, covering aspects, such as content delivery, holistic experience, cost, timing, resources, and family communication. Notably, male and female parents showed different priorities; males focused more on facilities and communication, whereas females emphasized fairness in admission criteria and visibility of the program site. These differences highlight the varied needs and perspectives that must be considered in program planning. The findings aimed to assist decision-makers in enhancing the effectiveness and inclusivity of SEPs.
