Panel: Methodological Applications for the Study of Giftedness
The study of giftedness has been broadly extended since the first research about intelligence was made at the beginning of the 20th century. Many questions such as characteristics of the gifted, educational, social and affective needs, and others have been studied but not always solved. The diversity of the unsolved questions makes it difficult to focus on a single method and different methodological approaches are needed to give a correct response to gifted students (Hernández & Gutiérrez, 2014). In this panel, we will discuss the use of different methods based on four examples: the use of quantitative methods to analyze students’ adaptation to university (survey method), to assess a teacher training program’s effect on knowledge (repeated measures method) will be explained, the application of mixed methods to analyze students’ academic engagement, and the role of creativity and the reasons to lie on gifted students will be discussed.
