The Relationship Between Parental Age Difference and Children’s IQ Scores
The potential relationship between parental age and children's intelligence development has been investigated in various studies. According to research, children born to mothers at a later age and fathers at a middle age are associated with higher intelligence development. This study, however, will examine the relationship between the age difference between parents and their children's intelligence scores. The age difference between parents may lead to differences in life experience, parenting attitudes, and educational level among parents, and thus, the family culture may be formed in different ways. This differentiated family culture may be associated with the child's intelligence development. The current study's participants consist of the parents of approximately 1,700 children who underwent individual intelligence assessments at a university’s research center on gifted education in Turkiye. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to shedding light on the characteristics of families with gifted children.
