Social Experiences and Emotional Wellbeing of Gifted Transgender and Non-Binary Adolescents

This session will discuss the social experiences of gifted transgender, non-binary and gender non-confirming young people and how educators can create spaces to support their emotional wellbeing. Findings from two datasets will be discussed; one from a mixed methods study on the factors which contribute to a positive or negative educational environment for gifted LGBTQ adolescents, and the second from a study on gifted students’ strengths, difficulties and flourishing within school and social experiences. Attendees will gain new knowledge on the experiences of this population, as well as the impact of identity affirmation on positive social and emotional development.
