Developing 5C Skills via Robotics among Gifted Orphans
Creative problem solving as an important 21st century skill has attracted increasing attention from educators and researchers. AI robotics provided a promising tool in this respect. The paper presents evidence from an enrichment program with 30 gifted orphans aged 9-11 years old. In each session a problem was presented, and children were asked to invent creative solutions using LEGO robotics. A total of 12 sessions were conducted. The results from pre-post tests on Creativity along observations and semi-structured interviews demonstrated positive impacts of the program on fostering creativity and attending to socio-emotional needs of gifted orphans. The five skills that should be targeted in designing gifted curriculum are Constructivist, Collaborative, Creative, Critical, and Collaborative. Jamali 5CS model in designing gifted and talented curriculum was thus recommended.
