Parental Perceptions of their Children's Intellectual Precocity

This study explored Chilean parents' perceptions of their intellectually precocious children, focusing on cognitive and socio-emotional traits and parenting challenges. Based on 46 in-depth interviews with a visual component, findings highlight children’s advanced skills, such as early mental calculation, curiosity, and sensitivity, nurtured through early stimulation and supportive parenting. Parents also reported challenges related to the upbringing of their children. Diverse parenting styles and family dynamics, including peer interactions, played a critical role in children’s social and emotional adaptation. These insights expand understanding of parenting young gifted learners, emphasizing the need for tailored educational and emotional support strategies.
