The Development of the Teacher Discourse Self-Efficacy Scale

This session discusses the Teacher Discourse Self-Efficacy Scale (TDSES), an instrument developed for a Javits-funded research project. The instrument is designed to measure teachers' confidence in fostering high-quality discourse and questioning in classrooms, including specific attention to challenging advanced learners. The TDSES focuses on two areas of reflection for teachers: facilitating deeper thinking and facilitating collaboration. This session will explore how the TDSES can be used for research and for teacher self-reflection and professional growth, ultimately enhancing instructional practices that can promote critical thinking and meaningful collaboration among students.
