The Role of Luck in the Diagnosis of Twice-Exceptional (2E) Individuals in Turkey: A Qualitative Study Based on Parental Perspectives
This study investigates the role of "luck" in the diagnostic process of twice-exceptional (2E) individuals in Turkey, combining giftedness with conditions such as autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities. Using qualitative methods, in-depth interviews were conducted with parents to explore perceptions of luck and its impact on diagnosis and support access. Thematic analysis revealed that socioeconomic and cultural factors significantly influenced diagnostic outcomes. Parents often attributed successful diagnoses to fortuitous access to resources or experts. Findings emphasize the need for equitable, accessible diagnostic frameworks and greater parental awareness. Addressing these disparities can ensure timely identification and better support for 2E individuals.
