Gifted Education in Australia: An Analysis of Policy and Guidance

Gagné's Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talents (DMGT) has long held sway in Australia. With recent changes in gifted education in many Australian jurisdictions, it is appropriate to investigate whether Gagné's approach continues its dominance. This document study explored relevant policy/ and found that the DMGT is still Australia’s favored model. Further, many of the essentialist elements contained in this model continue to flow through state level guidance. At the same time, most jurisdictions are embracing more dynamic approaches to giftedness, which leads to practical confusion at the policy level.
