Panel: Gifted and Displaced: Examining Giftedness in the Contexts of Migration and Forced Displacement
This symposium, led by Dr. Anies Al-Hroub and Dr. Albert Ziegler, explores giftedness in the context of migration and forced displacement. Drawing on research from Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe, it examines challenges and opportunities for gifted migrants, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and Externally Displaced Persons (EDPs). Key themes include identifying giftedness in displaced populations, the impact of educational policies, and the role of cultural identity in shaping talent. The session will also address barriers to education, social integration, discrimination, and family influences on well-being. This symposium contributes to advancing research and practice in this underexplored field, aligning with the forthcoming Special Issue of Gifted and Talented International. This symposium is part of a broader effort to advance research and practice in this underexplored domain.
