Does Personality Matter? Openness and Ability, Conscientiousness and Achievement, and Implications for Gifted Education

What are the implications of Big Five Openness to Experience and Conscientiousness for gifted education? This session explores that question from theory to classroom using the research literature and data gathered from two groups of gifted students. We will examine “giftedness” by comparing the Conscientious high achiever and Open creative iconoclasts. From there, we will explore implications regarding the larger aims of gifted education and related issues of identification, programming, and social-emotional support.
