Professional Development Needs of Teachers Related to The Gifted and Talented Teacher Standards for the UAE

The education of gifted and talented students requires teachers with specialized knowledge and skills aligned with the UAE’s Gifted and Talented Teacher Standards. This study identifies teachers' professional development (PD) needs, evaluates existing PD programs, and offers recommendations for improvement.

Using a mixed-methods approach, the study aims to: (1) assess teachers' PD needs concerning these standards, (2) evaluate available PD programs, and (3) propose strategies to enhance or develop new programs. Key research questions explore PD availability, adequacy, perceived needs, barriers, and alignment with professional standards.

Data collection includes surveys, interviews, and focus groups with teachers, administrators, and policymakers. Findings will provide insights into PD challenges and opportunities, informing the design of targeted programs to equip teachers for gifted education. This study supports the UAE’s educational goals by ensuring teachers are prepared to meet the needs of gifted learners.
