Self-Nomination as a Tool for Identifying Gifted and Talented Adolescents: Development and Validation of an Inventory
This study aims to develop and validate a self-nomination inventory as a complementary tool for identifying gifted and talented adolescents. Self-nomination is a promising yet underexplored strategy in the identification process. A pilot study with 4,499 Mexican students assessed the instrument’s psychometric properties across seven aptitude domains. Results demonstrate its potential to enhance screening procedures and address biases in traditional nomination methods. Findings highlight the importance of refining self-assessment instruments to promote more inclusive and equitable identification practices for gifted learners.
