A Rising Tide Lifts All Ships

The New South Wales Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy explicitly addresses the disadvantage, challenges and complications experienced by our diverse student population: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, remote, rural and regional students, high potential and gifted students with disability, students with a language background other than English, students from low socio-economic communities, and students at risk. It is based on principles of excellence, equity and inclusion. The policy acknowledges four domains of potential and utilises this construct to develop talent in a larger group of students, including those who underachieve.
