Representations of Twice-Exceptionality in Audiovisual Media: a Systematic Analysis of Characters
In the context of giftedness, the term “twice-exceptionality” refers to individuals who, in addition to being gifted, present one or more clinically significant conditions, such as ADHD, SLD, behavioral disorders, anxiety disorders, and autism spectrum disorders (Reis et al., 2014; Pfeiffer & Foley-Nicpon, 2018). The increasing presence of gifted characters in audiovisual productions worldwide (Baccassino & Pinnelli, 2022) and considering cinematography is a powerful narrative tool for building stereotypes and mental models it contributes to the orientation of social behaviors. The research analyzes the models emerging from film narratives about the twice exceptional person and the resulting value orientation.
