Teaching Your Heart Out: Addressing G/T Teacher Wellness in Schools
Teaching with passion can lead to unintended consequences, particularly for educators of gifted and talented students. Research from the University of British Columbia (2016) shows that teacher stress directly impacts student stress. Teachers facing pressures like perfectionism and imposter syndrome are at risk of burnout, which affects their ability to support gifted students effectively. With the sensitivities and overexcitabilities common in gifted students, the potential impact of teacher well-being is even higher. In this session, practice the tools needed for implementation to destigmatize teachers’ stress, embed organizational wellness, and connect through intentional, consistent practices.
