Navigating Educational Options: Why Gifted/2e Families Frequently Change School Environments

Gifted/2e students frequently find that their current school choices don’t fit their social, emotional, and academic needs. It is common for these families to change school environments, looking for a better fit. What factors cause gifted/2e families to leave schools, what are families searching for, and what types of learning environments best fit their needs? In this session, a 2024 qualitative case study examining nine parent perspectives as to why their gifted and 2e students changed school environments, often multiple times and even where there was gifted programming in place, will be shared for discussion.
