Aligning Research and Practice to Facilitate Culturally Responsive Curriculum

Research and practice have long been in tension about how to best inform educational pedagogy. Alignment of research and practice can be supported by meaningful collaboration to design and deliver appropriate curriculum relative to students’ cultural backgrounds. The Having Opportunities Promotes Excellence + Scholar Identity Model (HOPE+SIM) project aims to provide knowledge and know-how to educators in urban, rural, and tribal settings to identify gifted behaviors, develop talents, and help students adopt positive self-views about being a scholar within their cultural context. This presentation focuses on ways to garner collaboration between research and practice to facilitate culturally responsive teaching.
