Starting Early: How Various Nations Approach Early Childhood Gifts and Talents

Early identification and nurturance of gifts and talents is important for several reasons, including (but not limited to) talent development, advocacy, and student motivation. This session will describe what several countries do with respect to early childhood giftedness (particularly at preschool age), and will situate those policies within national and international research and recommendations about early cognitive and social-emotional development. Comparative practices will be explored, with reference to a foundation of psychological and educational neuroscience research that supports best practices.
