An Overview of Gifted and Talented Education in the Italian Panorama
This article provides an overview of the latest Italian education policies towards Gifted Education and briefly describes two Italian legislative initiatives that have been presented to the Italian Senate to fill the legislative gap in the Italian education system with respect to the European and international panorama. The article describes the positive outcomes emerging from a three-year implementation of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model in the first Italian SEM school, which determined an increase of students’ creativity. Both students and teachers benefitted from the positive experience of the SEM educational approaches to talent development which provides an educational experience that other Italian and European schools may wish to adapt to promote talent development.
