Equity In Action: Attaining Proportional Identification in Gifted Programs

Disproportionality in gifted education is a persistent issue across the United States. Students who are historically underrepresented, such as Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous, twice exceptional (2e), low socioeconomic, and second language learners, continue to face systemic barriers to identification and placement into gifted education programs. This session will outline one district’s initiatives aimed at addressing these disparities. Through an adaptation of Dr. Donna Fords Modified Equity Index (MEI) as well as other individual, specific strategic components, this district is making gains toward authentic, equitable proportional identification.
