Serving the Uniquely Gifted: Severe Needs Twice Exceptional Center-Based Programming

Twice-exceptional (2e) students are those students who demonstrate exceptional cognitive abilities while also qualifying as students with a co-existing disability. These students often face unique challenges in traditional educational settings. This session outlines one district’s innovative story to create center-based programs within elementary schools for impacted neurodivergent students with superior cognition. These two specialized center-based elementary programs are designed to meet the complex needs of cognitively superior students with severe behavioral needs. The programs provide individualized, strength-based supports and services utilizing the skills of a multi-disciplinary team to support 2e students accessing general education.
