Straight from the Horse’s Mouth: Student Voice as a Vehicle for Personal and Professional Development

Gifted students are powerful and useful resources for teachers, if we can invite them to share their ideas, insights and perspectives ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’. Sometimes these students are not asked for these valuable insights and so feel unable to share them without sounding arrogant or judgmental. This session shares the story of how gifted student voice forums have been used as teacher professional development at one school in Australia, from the perspectives of both a gifted education practitioner and a student, in keeping with the spirit of inviting perspectives ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’.
