Discussing Values in Giftedness and Talent Education
Values play a crucial yet often unspoken role in shaping educational research and practice. This presentation explores the significance of values and the need to make them explicit in the context of gifted and talented education. It begins by examining the functions of education and the broader question of its purpose for gifted and talented students. We will also discuss the role of values in this domain and introduce a framework designed to encourage reflection on educational practices. Five key value pairs are highlighted: wisdom and truth, beauty and aesthetics, compassion and cooperation, freedom and autonomy, and equity and justice.
