Teachers' Knowledge about the Educational Response to Gifted Students in Portugal

This study examines Portuguese teachers' knowledge of the educational response to gifted students. It highlights the importance of inclusive and personalized education, emphasizing the need for adapted pedagogical strategies and ongoing teacher training. Legislation, particularly Decree-Law No. 54/2018, is identified as a key element in ensuring equitable education. Using a quantitative approach, the study analyzes data from 863 Portuguese teachers, revealing gaps in training and awareness regarding gifted education. The findings point to challenges in identifying and supporting gifted students, reinforcing the need for greater investment in teacher professional development. The study concludes that the Portuguese education system must strengthen its efforts to provide an effective and differentiated response to the needs of gifted students.
