Giftedness in Türkiye: Parents' Perceptions of Giftedness, Raising Gifted Children, and the Challenges
This study investigates the perceptions, challenges, and support needs of parents raising gifted children in Türkiye. Using a qualitative approach, open-ended survey responses were collected from 3,049 parents through the Ministry of National Education's e-survey system (anket.meb.gov.tr).Thematic analysis revealed that parents perceive giftedness as a blend of exceptional academic ability and creative potential, yet they face challenges balancing their children's emotional, social, and academic needs. Parents expressed concerns about limited time and resources, highlighting the need for psychological support, social adaptation strategies, and educational guidance.Preferred training formats included hybrid models combining online and face-to-face sessions, reflecting a demand for flexible and accessible learning environments. The findings underscore the importance of targeted support systems for parents of gifted children, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts among families, educators, and policymakers. This study contributes to developing evidence-based interventions and policies to better support gifted children and their families, fostering their holistic development.
