5.5.3 Meeting the Needs of the Many; Gifted Programming from 2nd – 12th Grades

Content Overview The district GATE director will begin with a brief overview of the GT Strategic Plan for the district, which will include funding, assessment, and models of service. Programming Site Based Academic Programming GATE facilitators will present the five different site based models of service for GT students, including Advanced Academic Placement (AAP), Gifted Education Model of Support (GEMS), collaborative, pull-out, and advisory models. In these models, GT identified students are clustered in a variety of ways to engage in rigorous curriculum at their zoned schools with GT endorsed teachers and counselors to ensure GT students are receiving a minimum of 150 minutes per week of GT instruction and social/emotional support designed specifically for GT students. Self-Contained Academic Programming GATE facilitators will present three self-contained models of service for GT students, ranging from a highly/profoundly gifted model in elementary, to gifted high achievers in middles school, and individually based high school programs. Social Emotional Programming GATE counselors will present on services in elementary, middle, and high school level counseling that provides guidance lessons, site based supports, and individual services for GT students. Data Review and Next Steps The GATE director will review district data on GT student performance, growth, engagement and social/emotional management as it relates to the district overall, and to GT specific programming. This data will provide support for future programming improvement in an increasingly diverse district. Question and Answer The GATE director, facilitators, and counselor will provide a question and answer portion to address audience inquiry.
