3.1.8 Supportive Strategies for Guiding Twice/Multi-Exceptional Learners, Their Parents, and Teachers in Diverse Schooling Situations

I had the privilege of guiding twice -exceptional students in their homeschooled environment. Guiding them in discovering and using their talents has been full of ongoing successful accomplishments. The students have become self motivated and able to create their own learning situations in a balanced deep-rooted way.

Our team work, which started in difficult times, is running and advancing smoothly. Our students are becoming well rounded individuals with the capacity to make their own decisions. With this, and their own intrinsic motivation, students acquire skills that turn them into life-long learners. As a result of a supportive enabling environment, students keep discovering themselves as individuals and are not afraid to be and express themselves. They acquire a balanced development in the academic, social and emotional areas. The following strategies used at our specialized after school program were transferred to the homeschooling program and will be transferred to the on line workshops:

“Teach students to appreciate their own individual differences through self awareness activities” “Teach students to set realistic short-term goals.” “Immerse all the senses in the learning activities.” “Find and use available resources that will improve learning activities” “Give the basic tools for research and “hands -on” learning.
Furthermore, the following advice, learned throughout the years, is allowing homeschooled children to discover their abilities at an early age:

Set the stage for a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable and there are opportunities to stimulate their own thinking and creativity Provide students extracurricular opportunities Apply a diversity of strategies that stimulates the students’ academic, communication, planning, forecasting, creative and evaluation talents and strategies for developing the children’s self esteem Apply the known principles of holistic education and produce a transfer effect of academic abilities to real life situations Create awareness and understanding of the behavioral characteristics of gifted students with learning disabilities Identify special strengths in order to focus on them not allowing the learning difficulties to take over the learning. Students reach their goals In this successful educational secure and fun learning environment. We are presently launching on line workshops for teachers and parents as to share these proven effective strategies. The workshops will be offered through specialized individualized “hands-on” classes. Our advice and practical experience throughout the years, allows students to gain self confidence, discover, develop and use their talents and abilities to the fullest. They become successful well rounded individuals that benefit themselves and society.
