4.2.1 Great Expectations But Misunderstood: Addressing Executive Function Skills for Black, Gifted Students
The goal for this session is to share resources and strategies with parents of gifted, Black students that will strengthen their child's executive function skills as they support a smart, but scattered child. Parents will learn about the importance of executive function skills, the use of language that fosters a growth mindset, and brain-based coaching strategies to develop a stronger and more productive student throughout his/her educational career. Parents will examine Zaretta Hammond's Academic Mindset model, Carol Dweck's growth mindset, related books, time-management tools, and Neuroleadership's Brain-Based Coaching strategies for students.
