4.4.3 Discover a Powerful Online Learning Model Designed for Gifted Students

While multiple educational systems exist worldwide, according to Schooling around the World, within each country, stakeholders advocate the best practice to assist students in reaching their highest potential (1).

Unfortunately, sometimes a country’s educational systems are not equipped to meet the needs of their gifted and talented students, a group who often need a supplemented or advanced curriculum to help them achieve their potential (2).

To accommodate gifted students’ needs, educators may turn to the Internet for support (3). There are a variety of learning opportunities available online. Some models include live webinar interaction, while others focus solely on asynchronous learning through video instruction. Some focus on certain subjects like math— others are created to cover the entire school curriculum.

However, these learning models may not be suited for gifted learners since online curricula are often geared toward the mainstream learner. As well, students may not be able to attend these courses due to restrictions in their current educational path, such as enrollment in a traditional school setting.

To solve these challenges, a dynamic and interactive learning model was created specifically for gifted and talented students. This proven and powerful model can co-operate with traditional schooling systems or can be used to enrich alternative schooling arrangements for gifted students.

At the end of this Parallel Session, participants will understand how and why the gifted student- centered learning model was developed and how gifted students can more effectively interact with the online educational platform, online classmates, and course instructors. They will learn how this effective, results-driven model helps teachers and parents to meet the educational needs of gifted students.
