3.4.8 Ways to Enhance Creative Behavior Using Torrance’s Indicators

Creativity is highly valued in our world today. Research using creativity tests has shown that creative expression decreases as students progress through traditional curriculum. In this session, participants will experience ways that creative behaviors can be enhanced and engaged, using social studies curriculum, and will have the opportunity to apply those behaviors to their teaching practice. Attendees will use the Torrance Creativity Indicators to infuse their curriculum with activities that develop these identified behaviors. Participants will be given a template worksheet that they can use to plan with when they return to their classrooms. Time will be provided for practice, sharing, and questions. Gifted students have the capacity to engage in creative production through their abilities to see gaps in information, think broadly, connect concepts, see the big picture, and question. Our curriculum should promote these skills through strategies that encourage creative production. Social studies is used in this workshop as the medium, but any curriculum can be enhanced using Torrance’s list of indicators.
