3.6.9 Developing Essential Skills such as Self-Insight, Self-Management and Creative Thinking

In this session we focus on developing the important skills of self-insight, self-management, motivation, creative thinking, analytical thinking, critical thinking, ICT skills, communication skills and working together in education. All these skills are important now and in the future. We educate children for professions that do not exist yet. How can we prepare them for that? And how do we take into account the student's preference and development capability? We want to support this process and therefore we have created a tool that can be used to guide and counsel gifted children and their teacher / supervisor to set goals, choose an approach and follow their development. In this session we present this tool 'Development Goals & Skills' that has been developed and evaluated in the Netherlands by many teachers of gifted students and experts in the field of giftedness. The tool consists of a poster, card set and explanation with goals that are part of the nine important skills mentioned above. The tool is effective and used by numerous students to set en achieve goals, realize ideas, execute plans and live their dreams. Also, in this session we want to focus specifically on personal development and would like to exchange practical examples that stimulate personal growth. Therefore we would ask participants of this session to introduce successful working methods for personal development of their own. Curious how you can integrate all these experiences, information and tools into your (teaching) program? Then we would like to see you in the workshop. Everybody that joins the session receives a 'Development Goals & Skills" poster.
