3.4.9 Examples of Best Practice Around the World as a Model for Change in Gifted Education

There is lot of information on gifted children education and upbringing around the world. Despite it there are many serious problems for gifted and sensitive children in practice. Current situation calls for change which requires expertise, ethics, open international communication, energy and persistence. The situation is similar in many countries including the Czech Republic. The STaN (Association for Talent and Giftedness) previous Czechoslovak ECHA branch works since the 1988/89 schoolyear. Now STaN is the ECHA corporate member and WCGTC Affiliate. We have done a lot of work during those 30 years: Club of clever and curious children (1989-91); 69 workdays; more than 200 meetings of Club of Parents and Teachers (since 1993 year); 8 STaN conferences; counselling; teacher training; publication, popularization. We cooperate with the Ministry of Education (MSMT CR): We developed several conceptions of gifted students education and prepared several other projects, for instance Centre for Development of Giftedness (1990). We organized the 19.WCGTC conference in Prague. 8.-12.8.2011. Our aim is to improve situation of thoughtful, sensitive children in schooling. We are members of the HELP (High European Learning Potential) which is a colaborative network of European practitioner organizations dedicated to enabling children with high learning potential (HLP) to grow in confidence and achieve fulfilment so they can thrive. As the HELP member we decided to organize the STaN international conference „Paradigm Shift in Gifted Education“ 21.-24.8.2019 in Prague. Everybody interested in the HELP ideas is cordially invited.
