3.9.8 Applying Methods for Helping Gifted Students Learn Native Language More Effectively

When observing the intelligent-gifted students (10 ~ 15 years old), it is significant that the majority of them can easily accomplish complicated quantitative analysis; however, neither literatures nor languages could be easy for these intelligent-gifted students. Consequently, the reading and writing system of Chinese, classified as pictograph, might be difficult for most of intelligent-gifted students. In this research project, methods for solving the above difficulties were applied in compulsory education of China. With the help of poems, lyrics, and novels, it’s possible for teachers to inspire the intelligent-gifted students and help most of them become interested in literature. In reading courses, abstracting contents is an accessible method that can substitute the simple logical analysis, though most of these students would like to consider about the logics. In writing courses, analyzing the imperfectness of famous literature works can be a way for developing students’ ability of critical analysis. The above methods can help native speakers of Chinese enhance their capacity of reading and composing essays logically in Chinese. Currently, in my daily work, the above strategies and methods are being applied in both modern Chinese language and ancient Chinese writing instruction. In the coming future, these ideas might be helpful for foreign students who would like to learn Chinese as one of their foreign languages.
