2.1.8 Teachers' Personality Factors as Correlates of Academic Achievement of High Ability Students in Nigeria

Researchers have identified that the intelligence of teachers can be one major determinant of academic achievement of the high ability learners. However, some schools of thought believe that cognitive ability factors alone cannot fully account for academic achievement. Hence, some researchers have explored the relationship between personality factors of teachers and the academic achievement of learners. Many researchers agree that both cognitive and personality variables of teachers of the high ability learners should be taken into consideration looking at the relationship between academic achievement and teachers personality factors. The personality of a teacher emphasizes the importance of the role he or she is laying in the academic achievement of all high ability children. This is therefore the focus of the study.
