Proposal Submission Guide
Presenters are eligible to receive a 20% discount on registration
The process for submission is:
- Read all instructions contained in this guide.
- Develop your proposal description and review it carefully before beginning the online submission.
- Follow prompts and complete all fields.
- Submit your proposal on or before March 12, 2023.
Tentative Timeline
- March 1, 2023: Proposals Due — Deadline extended to March 12.
- April 15, 2023: Acceptance Decisions Sent
- May 15, 2023: Deadline for Presenters to Register (see https://register.worldgifted2023.com)
- July 1, 2023: Preliminary Schedule Available
- July 1, 2023: Deadline for on-demand videos to be submitted to Headquarters
Selection Criteria
The Academic Committee will select proposals based upon the following criteria:
- Relevance – Is the proposed topic relevant to the field of gifted education?
- Development – How developed is the project or concept?
- Creativity – Is the information in the project/concept addressed in unique ways?
- Quality – Is the project based upon sound research and practice?
- Mechanics – Is the proposal written with complete and correct English grammar?
Please note that proposals promoting commercial products, services, etc. will not be accepted. If you are interested in sharing this information, please consider becoming an exhibitor at the conference. For more information, please contact WCGTC Headquarters at headquarters@world-gifted.org.
Proposal Requirements
All proposals must contain the following information and must be submitted through the online submission form.
- Presentation Title
The presentation title may be no longer than 15 words. This is the title that will be used in the program book. - Presentation Type
There will be a variety of live, simulive (pre-recorded with a live chat), and on-demand (pre-recorded with no audience interaction in real-time) presentation sessions. Select the type that best suits your presentation preference. Due to limited slots in the program, the Academic Committee may need to adjust your presentation type. The types of presentations are: - A concurrent session is a 45-minute session in which individuals submit a pre-recorded 30-minute video followed by a 15-minute live question and answer period. Chat will be available during the presentation for participants to engage with one another. Each person may only submit a proposal to be the lead presenter on one concurrent session presentation. Concurrent sessions will be recorded and available for later viewing by conference participants. (The conference schedule can only accommodate 24 concurrent sessions.)
- A panel discussion is a one-hour live panel presentation that will involve 3-5 individuals conducting work about a related topic. The lead presenter of the panel will be the facilitator. The purpose of a panel discussion is to present work on a similar topic and to engage in discussion. Successful proposals will include clear descriptions of the topics to be discussed and the procedures that will be used to manage the discussion. Each person may only submit a proposal to be the lead presenter on one panel discussion. Panel discussions will be recorded and available for later viewing by conference participants. (The conference schedule can only accommodate eight panel discussions.)
- An on-demand session is a 30-minute pre-recorded session that is available on the conference platform for participants to review before, during, or after the official conference dates. A discussion forum will allow participants to engage in conversation and ask questions. (To accommodate more presentations, on-demand sessions will not be limited in number.)
- An audiovisual presentation is a 3-minute pre-recorded video in which individuals present a research study, program, or project. This format is particularly appropriate for works in progress, including doctoral research. The presentations will be on-demand for participants to view.
- Presenter Information
Contact information will be required for all presenters including name, organization, position, mailing and email address, and biography. The biography is limited to 100 words and should be written in the third person. Additional information can be submitted such as website and social media pages, but it is not required. Some of the information provided may be used in the program document such as name, organization, and email. Other information may be used in other online supplements.Additional presenters may be added to the form. Names will be listed in the program in the order they appear in the proposal submission.
Contact Person
This indicates who will be contacted regarding acceptances and other questions. An additional contact may also be included.- Time Zone of Lead Presenter
Though we cannot guarantee that your presentation will be scheduled in a time most convenient for your time zone, we will use this to help facilitate the scheduling of live components of the World Conference. - Topic Areas
You must choose the strand you think best suits your presentation. You may only choose one. Please note that Academic Committee members may choose to move your presentation to a different strand. The strands include:- Giftedness and Talent

- Content
An abstract of no more than 100 words is required. The abstract will be used in the conference program.A context and/or methods/justification section of no more than 400 words should also be included. The Academic Committee will use this section when reviewing proposals, but this section will not appear in the conference program. If the primary emphasis of your presentation is research, you must include information regarding the methods for your research. If the primary emphasis of your presentation is practice, you must include information regarding the relevant research/theory that underpins your presentation.
Additional Notes
The live portions of the conference will be facilitated by a streaming service through a conference platform (speakers will receive training/additional information on using the platform and support). Most sessions will be recorded and made available for viewing for at least six months after the World Conference.
The conference program will contain your title, abstract, name, and affiliation. Academic Committee or Program Committee members may edit this information.
Due to a large number of presentations, it is not possible to accommodate requests to present on certain days/times. Submitting a proposal indicates your willingness to present at the day and time the Program Committee schedules your presentation.
Each proposal will be blind reviewed. Your proposal should not contain any identifying information. Proposals containing identifying information will be removed from consideration.
Reviewers may wish to submit written feedback for individuals to view through the online submissions system. However, information regarding the scores received on proposals or who reviewed individual proposals will remain confidential and will not be available for review.
By submitting a proposal, you agree to our Copyright Agreement: My co-presenters and I grant the WCGTC a royalty-free license to record and distribute my presentation (including audio, handouts, PPT presentations, and video) as part of the Virtual World Conference, with appropriate attribution to us. We understand that we retain the ownership and copyright of the content of the presentation and that this granting does not prohibit us from using this presentation in any way or from allowing others to use it. We also acknowledge that our presentation does not violate proprietary or personal rights of others (including any copyright, trademark, or privacy rights), if factually accurate, and contains nothing defamatory or otherwise unlawful.
