2025 WCGTC Award Nomination Form
In conjunction with the WCGTC biennial conference, the Executive Committee of the World Council presents awards in six different areas of recognition: Distinguished Service, Creativity, Research, Leadership, Emerging Leader, and Emerging Scholar. Applications for these awards are submitted to Headquarters, and the Awards and Scholarship Committee assumes the responsibility for selecting the recipients.
All nominations need to have the following:
(1) A letter of support from the person submitting the nomination that details why the nominee would be an appropriate recipient of the award.
(2) A minimum of one additional letter of recommendation (from a person other than the one submitting the nomination form).
(3) A list of significant contributions the nominee has made to the field of gifted education and to the development and support of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC).
(4) A CV (curriculum vitae) and/or supporting documents for the nominee.
The awards include:
(1) The World Council Distinguished Service Award
The recipient must have made an outstanding contribution to gifted education as reflected in service to the WCGTC and in the furtherance of its purposes over a period of ten years or more.
Nominations should include a statement elaborating on each of the following:
- Impact – describe the quality, nature and impact of the nominee’s teaching, research, and/or advocacy.
- Service – describe service to gifted education regionally, nationally, and/or internationally and specifically any significant contributions.
- Recognition – describe any other awards or achievements in gifted education (evidence of these aspects would be beneficial).
(2) The International Creativity Award
The recipient must have international recognition in the field of creativity and must have made significant contributions to promoting creativity in education.
Nominations should include a statement elaborating on each of the following:
- Impact – describe the quality, nature and impact of the nominee’s teaching, research, and/or advocacy in relation to creativity.
- Leadership – describe leadership and continuing excellence in the field of creativity.
- Service – describe service to gifted education regionally, nationally, and/or internationally and specifically any significant contributions related to creativity.
- Recognition – describe any other awards or achievements in gifted education (evidence of these aspects would be beneficial).
(3) The International Award for Research
The recipient must have international recognition in gifted education and made significant contributions through research in establishing gifted education as a recognized field of study in education, in extending the knowledge base of gifted education, and in improving the practice of gifted education.
Nominations should include a statement elaborating on each of the following:
- Impact – describe the quality, nature and impact of the nominee’s research.
- Leadership – describe research leadership and continuing excellence in gifted education research.
- Service – describe service to gifted education research, including journal editing and reviewing, examination of research theses.
- Recognition – describe any other awards or achievements for research (evidence of these aspects would be beneficial).
(4) The A. Harry Passow International Award for Leadership in Gifted Education
The recipient must have international stature as a leader in gifted education—one whose life and work have significantly influenced policy and practices in gifted education or one who has made other outstanding contributions in promoting the cause of gifted education worldwide.
Nominations should include a statement elaborating on each of the following:
- Impact – describe the quality, nature and impact of the nominee’s teaching, research, and/or advocacy.
- Leadership – describe leadership and continuing excellence in gifted education nationally and internationally.
- Service – describe service, particularly in leadership roles in gifted education regionally, nationally, and/or internationally and any significant leadership contributions.
- Recognition – describe any other awards or achievements in gifted education (evidence of these aspects would be beneficial).
(5) Emerging Leader in Gifted Education Award
The recipient must be in the first 10 years of career in gifted education (time taken as parental leave is not counted as part of the 10-year window); evidence of advanced studies in gifted education, talent development, or creativity (e.g., certification, graduate degree); evidence of impact of teaching, research, and/or advocacy on gifted education in their country or region; evidence of outstanding promise for leadership; and evidence of service to gifted education.
Nominations should include a statement elaborating on each of the following:
- Impact – describe the quality, nature and impact of the nominee’s teaching, research, and/or advocacy.
- Leadership – describe potential for leadership and continuing excellence in gifted education.
- Service – describe service to gifted education regionally, nationally, and/or internationally and specifically any significant contributions.
- Recognition – describe any other awards or achievements in gifted education (evidence of these aspects would be beneficial).
(6) Emerging Scholar in Gifted Education Award
The recipient must be a current member of the WCGTC; in the first 10 years of career in gifted education (time taken as parental leave is not counted as part of the 10-year window); evidence of graduation from their most recent advanced research degree gifted education, talent development, or creativity (i.e., Doctoral) within 10 years of the nomination; evidence of impact of research in gifted education in their country or region; evidence of outstanding promise for leadership; and evidence of service to gifted education.
Nominations should include a statement elaborating on each of the following:
- Impact – describe the quality, nature and impact of the nominee’s teaching, research, and/or advocacy.
- Recognition – describe any other awards or achievements in gifted education (evidence of these aspects would be beneficial).
- Publications – provide a brief summary and copies of up to three publications in refereed journals that were authored or co-authored since graduating. The summary needs to explain the nominee’s contribution to any co- authored contributions.
The nomination for each award may be submitted only by current World Council members who are in good standing (memberships are paid). The nominator will upload all letters of recommendation with the application.
