Comments: The Gifted Education Specialization Doctorate (EdD) fuses gifted education training with Curriculum and Instruction Leadership in an online AND face-to-face model. Students take two online courses each quarter—fall, winter, and spring—and meet face-to-face with their cohort for two on-campus courses in the summer. Each June the students come to campus for two-weeks to receive relationship-building within the cohort, advising, and assistance with research project conceptualization. The program will develop research skills, particularly in intervention, methodology, and analysis. Students generally complete this terminal degree program within 3 years.
Students have the option of receiving a district level administrative credential which leads to a Gifted Director level endorsement.
The Master of Arts (MA) program encourages reflection and creativity. Students gain knowledge and skills through small seminars, independent projects, and specialized areas of study. This degree program gives students the opportunity to take courses across the Morgridge College of Education, to customize studies and focus on a distinct area of interest such as Gifted Education. The Teacher Education Program (TEP) offers an intensive, integrated, professional preparation experience. As apprentice teachers, students are in one field placement for the entire academic year with a gradual release of teaching responsibility over the year. Students can pursue a master’s degree and licensure within this program, or just licensure and two different levels of Gifted Education endorsement.
