The World Council for Gifted and Talented Children Announces 2021 Award Winners

For Immediate Release

In conjunction with the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC®) biennial conference, the WCGTC® presents awards in six different areas of recognition: research, creativity, leadership, distinguished service, emerging leader, and emerging scholar.

The Executive Committee congratulates each of the 2021 award winners.

World Council Distinguished Service Award
Julia Link Roberts  – Western Kentucky University, USA

Leonie Kronborg – Monash University, Australia

The recipient must have made an outstanding contribution to gifted education as reflected in service to the WCGTC and in the furtherance of its purposes over a period of ten years or more.

International Creativity Award

Barbara Kerr – University of Kansas, USA

 The recipient must have international recognition in the field of creativity and must have made significant contributions to promoting creativity in education.

International Award for Research

Françoys Gagné – Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada

The recipient must have international recognition in gifted education and made significant contributions through research in establishing gifted education as a recognized field of study in education, in extending the knowledge base of gifted education, and in improving the practice of gifted education.

Harry Passow International Award for Leadership in Gifted Education

Ann Robinson – University of Arkansas at Little Rock, USA

The recipient must have international stature as a leader in gifted education—one whose life and work have significantly influenced policy and practices in gifted education or one who has made other outstanding contributions in promoting the cause of gifted education worldwide.

Emerging Leader in Gifted Education Award

Andrew Almazan – Centro de Atención al Talento, Mexico

The recipient must be in the first 10 years of career in gifted education; evidence of advanced studies in gifted education, talent development, or creativity (e.g., certification, graduate degree); evidence of impact of teaching, research, and/or advocacy on gifted education in their country or region; evidence of outstanding promise for leadership; and evidence of service to gifted education.

Emerging Scholar in Gifted Education Award

Alexandra Vuyk – Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, Paraguay

The recipient must be a current member of the WCGTC; in the first 10 years of career in gifted education; evidence of graduation from their most recent advanced research degree gifted education, talent development, or creativity (i.e., Doctoral) within 10 years of the nomination; evidence of impact of research in gifted education in their country or region; evidence of outstanding promise for leadership; and evidence of service to gifted education.
